Coach Devin Gates returned in 2018 for his second stint on the Worcester State sidelines.

Gates previously served as the Worcester State quarterbacks coach (2008-2011) and offensive coordinator (2009-2011). Coach Gates returns after six seasons as the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at MASCAC rival Fitchburg State University. During this stint at Fitchburg State, numerous all-time records were set, and the Falcons secured an ECAC bowl berth in 2015.

Before his first stint on Chandler Street, Coach Gates spent three seasons at Fitchburg State coaching quarterbacks in 2004 and 2005 and defensive backs in 2006. In both years that Coach Gates coached the Falcon signal callers, they broke numerous school passing records and also made two appearances in the New England Football Conference Championship game and in ECAC bowl games.

In 2006, Coach Gates enjoyed a run as an assistant coach for the Colorado Crush of the Arena Football League. The Crush made the playoffs and lost to the eventual Arena Bowl champs, the Chicago Rush.

As a player, Coach Gates enjoyed stints playing quarterback with both the Lancers and Falcons. A native of Fitchburg, Mass., Coach Gates currently resides in Leominster with his wife Sarah, his daughter Dani, and son Owen. He serves as a physical education teacher at a therapeutic high school in Eastern Massachusetts.
