Clark Opens Season with 1-0 Win Over Field Hockey

Worcester, MA --- Junior Anne Marie DiMatteo (Belmont, MA) netted the game-winning goal to help pace Clark, 1-0, over host Worcester State in non-conference field hockey action this evening at Coughlin Stadium. For both teams it was the season opener.

Following a penalty corner, junior Carley Corkum (Newbury, MA) found DiMatteo open in front of the net and she put back the marker at 20:56.

Throughout the duration of the contest, the Lancers had numerous opportunities to score, but failed to capitalize on any of them. The Blue and Gold finished with a 15-7 advantage in shots and a commanding 16-3 edge in penalty corners. Worcester State sophomore Meghan Feehan (Lunenburg, MA) led the team with three shots on goal.

Clark also played outstanding defense as junior Kathryn Dawsey (Saratoga Springs, NY) notched 11 saves to earn the shutout between the pipes. Classmate Gloria Torres (West Hartford, CT) also finished with two defensive stops. Senior netminder Erin MacDonald (Dedham, MA) tallied four saves for Worcester State.

This weekend the Lancers will travel to Springfield for the Zenaty Invitational and face the Pride in the first round at 11 AM on Saturday. The winner/loser will face Western New England or Smith in the championship or consolation game. The Cougars have a two-game homestand starting with New England College on Saturday at 1 o'clock and then UMass-Dartmouth on Tuesday at 7 PM.
