Field Hockey Battles Fitchburg State to 1-0 in Double Overtime

Fitchburg, MA - The Fitchburg State field hockey team suffered a tough 1-0 double overtime setback to Worcester State College in Little East Conference action this afternoon at Elliot Field.

Senior Megan Rosborough (Uxbridge, MA) lifted the Worcester State offensive attack, scoring the lone goal for the Lancers, while senior goaltender Erin McDonald (Dedham, MA) totaled 15 saves in net.

After two silent regulation halves and one scoreless overtime period, Worcester State connected early in the second extra frame as Rosborough slipped a shot past Falcon goalkeeper Taylor Van Ahnen (Seekonk, MA) from the right side of the shooter's arc. The goal was Rosborough's third of the season.

Fitchburg State dominated the offensive front, posting a 24-14 advantage in shots, but Worcester State capitalized on its 22-11 advantage in corners to earn its fourth victory of the season. Van Ahnen was solid in net for the Falcons, totaling seven saves in the complete game effort

Fitchburg State (2-3, 1-1 LEC) is back in action on Monday as it hosts Wheelock College at 7 p.m. Worcester State (4-3, 1-1 LEC) will travel to Framingham State College next Saturday at 11 a.m.
