Salem State Edges Field Hockey, 1-0, in Little East Contest

Worcester, MA --- Sophomore April Rossetti's (Saugus, MA) goal at 44:21 lifted Salem State to a 1-0 victory over Worcester State in Little East Conference field hockey action this morning at Coughlin Field. With the win the Vikings improve to 6-5 overall and 3-4 in LEC play while the Lancers slip to 8-5 and 4-2 in the conference.

The first half was played with neither team gaining a clear advantage either way. Salem State, however, held a slight 6-3 edge in shots while Worcester led in corners, 3-1.

Rossetti broke the scoreless tie when she scooped in a deflection off of WSC keeper Erin MacDonald's (Dedham, MA) pads, after MacDonald made a nice save in front of the cage.

Salem State continued to play tenacious defense throughout the rest of the period as they only held Worcester to just three shots the rest of the way.

MacDonald finished the game stopping five of the six shots she faced on goal while her counterpart, Jess McKenna (Rowley, MA), made just one save between the pipes for Salem State.

The Lancers will travel to Dudley to face regional rival Nichols at 7 PM on Wednesday while Salem will host Gordon at 6.
