Plymouth State 5, Worcester State 1
Plymouth, NH - Sophomore Kristina Conroy (Wakefield, MA) scored two goals on Saturday to lead Plymouth State University to a 5-1 win over Worcester State College in a key Little East Conference field hockey game at Arold Field.
The Panthers won their fourth straight to improve to7-3 in the LEC and 9-6 overall, which keeps them in second place in the conference. Worcester State drops to 5-4 in the LEC and 10-7 overall.
Conroy scored first at 17:58 in the first half with a pass from senior teammate Ashley Gutowski (Conway, NH). The Panthers continued to put up shots up all day but led just 1-0 at the half.
The Lancers tied the game up early in the second half with an unassisted goal from sophomore Angela Johnson (Ashby, MA). PSU rebounded with four goals in the next six minutes. Freshman Kaleigh Chase (Wells, Maine), junior Sarah Smith (Lexington, Mass) and Gutowski each scored unassisted goals in the next three and a half minutes, and Conroy rounded out the scoring by tacking on her second goal of the day, with the assist from Smith.
The Panthers finished with a 43- 4 advantage on shots. WSC goalie senior Erin MacDonald (Dedham, Mass) finished with 17 saves and PSU goal keeper freshman Elyse Sedgley (Hopkinton, NH) ended with just two stops.
The Panthers will host a non-conference game against Springfield on Thursday (3:30 p.m.) and finish up the regular season at Bridgewater State next Saturday. Worcester State will wrap up its regular season on the road with Framingham State on Monday and Eastern Connecticut next Saturday.
