Field Hockey Headed to ECAC New England Tournament

Fifth Seeded Lancers to Play at #4 St. Joseph's of Maine

Worcester, MA --- For the fifth time in seven years, the Worcester State College field hockey team will make an appearance in the New England Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament as a number five seed and travel to number four St. Joseph's of Maine on Wednesday afternoon.

The winner will face top ranked Endicott on the road in the semifinals on Saturday. In the other bracket, #2 seed Plymouth State will host seventh seeded Framingham State while third seeded Westfield State will entertain #6 Becker with both matches slated to be played on Wednesday.

Last week the Lancers (11-9) lost a heartbreaking 2-1 setback to Plymouth State in the quarterfinals of the Little East Conference Tournament. The Monks (14-5) fell 4-3, in overtime to Castleton in the championship game of the North Atlantic Conference Tournament this past Saturday.

Both teams are no strangers to the New England ECAC's as Worcester State has qualified for the tournament in 2001, 2002, 2004 and in 2006 while the Monks fell, 1-0, in their only appearance last season to Bridgewater State in the championship game. Two years ago, the Lancers fell in the semifinals, 3-0, to Endicott, who was the #1 seed.
