Field Hockey Blanks Elms, 6-0

Worcester, MA --- Worcester State had a pair of hat tricks from sophomore Lindsey McGeary (Foxboro, MA) and senior Sarah Cozzens (Lancaster, MA) to propel them to a 6-0 win over Elms College in non conference field hockey action at Coughlin Field.

The Lancers (2-0) opened the scoring when McGeary netted two of her three goals in the opening frame at 1:53 and again with 20:00 on the clock. Cozzens would then notch her first marker of the contest 61 seconds later on a save that bounced back to her.

McGeary turned the trick with less than four minutes left in the half on an assist by junior Cozzens to cap off the scoring in the stanza to help the Blue and Gold claim the 4-0 advantage at the intermission.

Cozzens sent in the final two tallies of the contest for the final score, late in the second period.

The Blazers' (0-1) only scoring chance came at 41:51, when freshman Yvonne Urbanowicz (Holyoke, MA) shot the ball wide of the net.

Worcester State would finish with a 28-1 advantage in shots and an 18-1 edge in corners.

Goalkeepers Rebecca Mullen (Peabody, MA) and Sydney Dionis (Shrewsbury, MA) had a combined shutout for the Lancers and were not called upon to make a save while Elms' net minder Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, MA) collected 16 stops.

The two squads will play games next Saturday.  WSU opens LEC play with Framingham State at 3 o'clock while Elms faces non-conference foe Rivier at 1.
