Sutherland Named to NFHCA Division III All-Region Team

NFHCA Release

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior midfielder Hayley Sutherland (Tewksbury, Mass.) has been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-Region Team as announced by the association Monday (Nov. 28) afternoon.

"We are so excited and proud of Hayley," commented interim head coach Alexa Carlson.  "Hayley worked very hard this season and I'm very pleased to see her being represented on the All-Region team."

Sutherland completed the season with first team All-Conference honors as she scored five goals and assisted three on the season. Her highlight of the year was when she was featured on ESPN's top-10 sports for a miraculous shot off a penalty corner (VIDEO).

"She commanded the field this season with her vision, skill and speed," said Carlson.  "Her teammates look to her all over the field and she truly stepped up in her junior season. She has fantastic decision making skills and has grown so much as a player this season."

Sutherland was one of 197 student-athletes receiving either first or second-team recognition. She was also one of two Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) players who made the all-region team.

"She truly is an excellent representation of what it means to be a Worcester State Field Hockey player," concluded Carlson.

There were 100 student-athletes on the first team, and 97 on the second team across the six regions, which included the Great Lakes, New England East, New England West, North Atlantic, South Atlantic, and South. Broken down by class, the All-Region squads consisted of 94 seniors, 56 juniors, 39 sophomores and eight freshman.
