WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University's junior forward, Michaila Parent (Westborough, Mass.) not only led the Lancers to a Little East Conference (LEC) comeback, but she also broke a Worcester State University school record for goals in a single season (17) with the pair of tally's in the win.

In tonight's contest, the Worcester State University field hockey team also clinched the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season title, concluding MASCAC play with a 4-1 slate.

1^ST HALF

In the 16^th minute, following a penalty by the Lancers inside the circle, Westfield State's Rachel Bunce (East Dennis, Mass.) had an opportunity to score with a penalty stroke. She did just that as she fired into the lower right corner of the cage to put the Owls ahead 1-0.

As time expired in the half the Lancers' Parent received a pass from Jess Wilding (Somerset, Mass.) and quickly batted the ball into the lower right corner of the goal to equalize the score going into the intermission.  

2^ND HALF

In the 37^th minute of play Parent struck again as a pass from Jolane Thibault (Douglas, Mass.) forward to the right side, finding Parent she fired a shot past the Owls into the back of the net.  With the goal, Parent broke the record for most goals in a season.

CRUNCH THE NUMBERS

• Parent currently leads not only her team in numerous categories, but also leads the LEC in goals (17) assists (11), points (45), and game-winning goals (5).
• Worcester State's Thibault tallied her fourth assist of the season, while Wilding notched her third.
• Westfield State's Bunce logged her eighth goal this season on the penalty stroke.
• Kathryn Salemme (Boxborough, Mass.) earned her 12^th win in net this season as she stopped 7-of-8 shots on net. Westfield State's Molly Duff-Still (Hatchville, Mass.) was tabbed the loss in a five save performance.
• Worcester State's Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Westfield State's Delaney Gembis (North Chelmsford, Mass.) each recorded a defensive save on the occasion.
• Despite the loss for Westfield, the Owls held a 12-10 edge in shots (9-8 SOG).
• Worcester State had twice as many corner opportunities than Westfield State, outnumbering them 12-6 (7-3 in the first half).

COACHES CORNER

Head coach Alexa Carlson commented on Parent's recent success, as she just broke the Worcester State points in a single season record last game. "I am really proud of Michaila," said Carlson. "She has worked very hard to have the successful season she's currently having."

"Michaila continues to be the spark to our offense and she's one of the hardest working players on the field at any given time."

UP NEXT

Worcester State resumes play on Saturday (Oct. 21) when they travel to Southern Maine for the final regular season league matchup, before returning home for senior night next Thursday (Oct. 26). The Owls return to play on Thursday (Oct. 19) when they travel to Western New England for a 4 p.m. tilt.
