JONES PROPELS LANCERS PAST FITCHBURG

WORCESTER, MASS., - The Worcester State Lancers hosted the Falcons of Fitchburg State University at Coughlin Field for the Paula Gastongauy Memorial Game. Paula, a Worcester State Alumni, was most recently the women's basketball coach at Fitchburg State. She was also a teacher in the Fitchburg public school system. Friday night's game was played in Paula's honor.

The action got underway just over 5-minutes into play when Karalyn Jones (Wilbraham, MA) received a pass from Emily Floury (Warren, MA) and slipped a shot past Fitchburg's goalkeeper Jenna Morse (Leominster, MA). Fitchburg had a scoring opportunity in the first minutes of the second quarter on a pair of shots by Joyce Arbia (Sag Harbor, NY) but Sam Gastongauy (Ashburnham, MA) came up big with an initial save and Ann Maher (Mansfield, MA) made defensive save on the second to protect the lead.

Jones was able to find the back of the net again, with just five minutes remaining in the half to put the Lancers up by two. The goal was assisted by Floury. The duo of Jones and Floury would strike again in the 39th minute of play and Jones would go on to add one more insurance goal in the 4th quarter to seal the victory for the Lancers.

Gastongauy made two saves on the shutout while Morse made nine for the Falcons. Jones had a career game-high with 4 goals, while Floury had a career game-high with three assists. The Lancers improved to 7-1 (2-0 LEC) with the win, while the Falcons fell to 1-7 (0-3 LEC) with the loss.

The Lancers will return to action on Tuesday, as they travel to Westfield State for an LEC matchup at 7:00pm, while the Falcons will host the Bridgewater State Bears on the same day.
