LANCERS POWER PAST WESTERN CONNECTICUT ST.

DANBURY, CONN. - The Worcester State University field hockey team improved to 9-3 overall (4-2 LEC) with a convincing win over Western Connecticut State University on Saturday morning. The win marked the team's second victory of the week.

After a scoreless first quarter, Worcester forward Hope Makey (Clinton, MA) cracked through the WestConn defense to put the Lancers up by one just 25 seconds into the second quarter. Makey's second goal of the season came after a cross-crease feed from Emily Floury (Warren, MA). Nine minutes later, Floury would add a tally of her own. Floury's goal came off an assist from Karalyn Jones (Wlbraham, MA) to give the Lancers a two goal lead.

WestConn was able to cut the lead in half in the 34th minute of play after a scramble in front of sophomore goalkeeper Sam Gastonguay (Ashburnham, MA). Gastonguay made the initial save, but WestConn's Samantha Burns (New Milford, CT) was able to collect the rebound and toss the ball into the back of the Lancer net.

Lancer midfielder Molly Cutting (Auburn, MA) popped in an insurance goal in the final minute of play to give the Lancers a 3-1 win over WestConn.

Worcester's Gastonguay made 6 saves in the victory, while WestConn keeper, Kayla Hnasko (Raritan, NJ) made 5 saves in the contest.

The Lancers return to action on Tuesday, October 12 as they host Castleton University for a 7pm start, while WestConn travels to Elms College on October 14th.
