FLOURY'S TWO GOALS LEAD LANCERS PAST SPARTANS

WORCESTER, MASS., - Emily Floury (Warren, MA) scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Worcester State University Lancers to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Castleton State University Spartans, Tuesday night at John F. Coughlin Memorial Field in Worcester.

Just fifty-two seconds into action, Castleton's first-year standout, Emily Harris (Crondall, England) cut off a pass at center field and powered through the Lancer's defensive zone, driving a hard shot past sophomore goalkeeper, Sam Gastonguay (Ashburnham, MA). The goal, Harris' 18th of the season, set the record for Castleton's single-season scoring, previously set at 17. Castleton would hold the lead until the 11th minute, when the Spartans faced a barrage of pressure at their netfront. Castleton's first year goalkeeper made two initial saves, but Worcester's junior forward Emily Floury (Warren, MA) found her own rebound and sunk a shot behind Leduc to tie the game at one.

Five minutes into the second quarter, Floury broke free down the right side of the field towards the Spartan net. Floury crossed the ball to the stick of senior foward, Hope Makey (Clinton, MA) who was ready and waiting on the far post. Makey chipped the ball past Leduc for her 3rd goal of the season and put the Lancers up by one.

Floury would strike again in the 3rd quarter, scoring her second of the night and 7th of the season giving the Lancers a two goal cushion to start the second half. Castleton's Kimberly McCarthy (West Sayville, NY) would answer back in the final seconds of the quarter on a goal assisted by Harris. The score marked McCarthy's first of the season.

Despite exchanging chances, strong defensive efforts left the score untouched in the fourth quarter, giving Worcester the 3-2 win.

Worcester improved to 10-3 (5-2 LEC) on the night, while the Spartans fell to 4-9 (2-5 LEC).

Leduc made 8 saves for Castleton while Worcester's Gastongauy added 3 of her own.

The Lancers return to action on Thursday, October 14th at Endicott College while Castleton hosts Fitchburg State on Saturday, October 16th.
