Field Hockey Clinches #2 Seed with Senior Day Victory

WORCESTER, Mass. – With a 5-0 victory over UMass Dartmouth on Senior Day, the Worcester State field hockey team clinched the #2 seed in the Little East Conference (LEC) tournament and will host a quarterfinals matchup next Tuesday at Coughlin Field.

Before today's win, the Lancers celebrated the careers of their senior class, which includes Hope Makey (Clinton, Mass.), Lexie Panagiotopoulos (Lowell, Mass.), Ann Maher (Mansfield, Mass.), Ali Roy (Paxton, Mass.) and Julianna Martinelli (Auburn, Mass.).

Floury scored twice, including the eventual game-winner as she opened the scoring in the shutout win. The Lancers outshot the Corsairs 16-2 including a 6-0 advantage in shots on goal.

Now with ten goals on the year, Floury opened the scoring just five minutes into the game on a feed from Martinelli. She would eventually cap the win with a second goal with eight minutes remaining in the fourth. Floury also added an assist on a goal by Makey, which made it 3-0 in the last minute of the opening period.

Molly Cutting (Auburn, Mass.) made it 2-0 just 2:30 minutes after Floury's opening marker, and later assisted on a third quarter goal by Carly Duff (Warren, Mass.), the only tally of the third.

Lexie Panagiotopoulos (Lowell, Mass.) had an assist on Cutting's goal, while Duff set up Floury's second marker of the game.

Madison Ferrara (Somerset, Mass.) earned the shutout and improved to 6-2 in net for the Lancers, while Alyssa MDonough (Hill, N.H.) made one stop but fell to 7-10 in the Dartmouth net.

Worcester State (14-5) will host No. 7 Salem State next Tuesday in the MASCAC first round.

The Corsairs fall to 7-12 overall and 6-6 in the conference, and will be on the road for their own LEC quarterfinal contest as the number eight seed, heading to top-ranked Keene State.
