Field Hockey Announces 2023 Schedule

Worcester, MA- Third year Head Coach Hayley Sutherland and the Worcester State University Field Hockey team have announced their 2023 slate of games. This season will be the first that the program competes solely in the MASCAC conference, which they were named regular season champions of last season, as they bid for a return to the NCAA tournament. The team is primed to finish their season battling for the first ever MASCAC Championship and automatic qualifier to the NCAA behind senior captains Grace Adams and Sam Gastonguay, along with fellow captain and junior Madison Avilla. With a breath of new talent and dedicated returners, the Lancers are looking to make their presence felt this season.

“We are looking forward to seeing how playing in the MASCAC will play out. After our nontraditional season it is clear that there are a lot of solid returners on our squad who have been putting in the work during the off season” says Sutherland. “Those returners paired with some young talent who are coming in, will put us in a good spot to build upon the long-standing rivalries we have within the MA State Universities. No one out works Worcester State Field Hockey and we can't wait to prove it while competing for the first MASCAC Championship.”

The Worcester State Field Hockey team will start with a new opening season matchup this season as they head down the road to Clark University for a September 1st battle, before returning for their home opener on the 7th versus Springfield College. The Lancers will dip into their former conference schedule on September 9th when they journey up to Keene St before hosting their first ever MASCAC Conference game versus rivals Westfield State on September 15th. They will remain at home for the 19th when they will take on Wheaton before traveling to their first conference road trip with a trip out to Bridgewater State on the 23rd. The final three games of September will see the Lancer bounce from home to away and back home again as they take on Fitchburg State on September 26th, WPI on the 28th and Framingham State on the 30th.

Worcester State will remain at home to open and close October with one other conference game at Coughlin as the majority of the month will see the Lancers getting heavily acquainted with the bus. On October 4th the Lancers will welcome Southern Maine to Coughlin field before a double conference trip to Salem State on the 7th and the start of their home and away double conference games as they travel to Westfield on the 11th. The Lancers will make a quick stop at home on the 14th to face off with Bridgewater State, before a three game road trip sends them to Endicott on the 19th, Fitchburg on the 21st and finally Framingham State which is currently slated for October 25th. The final game of the season will not only close out conference play but play host to the Lancers Senior Day as a part of the homecoming celebrations on October 28th where they will be hosting Salem State.
