Worcester State University Field Hockey Releases 2022 Schedule

Worcester, MA- Second year Head Coach Hayley Sutherland and the Worcester State University Field Hockey team have announced their 2022 campaign season today. The Lancers look to continue their success in their final season as affiliate members of the Little East Conference, the 2023 season will be see the Worcester State Blue and Gold joining the newly created MASCAC Field Hockey conference. The team is primed to finish their season battling for the Little East Crown behind senior returners Karalyn Jones, LEC Third Team and Emily Saucier, the LEC Defensive Player of the Year. This powerhouse duo will be surrounded by not only an experienced core of returners but some immediately impactful transfers and recruits.    

"We are thankful for our time in the competitive LEC and are looking to end it on a high note this season," says Sutherland. "Our seniors and our captains, Molly Cutting, Carly Duff, Emily Saucier and Karalyn Jones, have set the tone for us this offseason, and are ready to hit the pitch. I am excited to see what we will accomplish this season!"

The Worcester State Field Hockey team start their season, and host the first home match of the 2022-23 Athletic Season, on September 2nd, with a Thursday Night game under the lights versus Anna Maria College. The Lancers stay at home two days later in a town rivalry showdown with Clark University before journeying on the road for two straight games. The Field Hockey team will first head to Springfield College before opening Little East Conference play on the 10th at Salem State. The remainder of the September schedule has the club beginning to looking for revenge over tough road losses last year with games on the 13th, versus Wellesley, and the 27th, additionally the MASCAC home opener, versus Westfield State. In-between these bookend of payback games, the Lancers will travel to Wheaton and Fitchburg State and host WPI on Coughlin Field.

October's still sees the squad looking to change the outcomes from their regular season road losses last year, with home games against Framingham State, Endicott and Keene State. The Lancers will also host Western Connecticut, Plymouth State and Bridgewater State during the month. The Friday, October 25th, game versus Bridgewater State is currently slated as the team's senior night. The lone loss at home last season, in the Little East Semifinal, versus Eastern Connecticut, will have its rematch in Windham on October 22. The squad will also travel to Southern Maine, Castleton and close out, not only the season, but conference play when they journey to Dartmouth on October 28th to take on UMass Dartmouth.
