Horton Receives Nod as MASCAC Player of the Week

Worcester, MA --- For the second time this season, Worcester State junior forward Maurice Horton (Detroit, MI) has been selected as this week's Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after he helped the Lancers finish at 1-1 and in second place at the Trinity Holiday Invitational.

Horton averaged 21 points and 7.5 rebounds while earning all-tournament honors for WSC. Horton notched 28 points and 10 boards in a 67-59 opening round win over Trinity while he added 14 points, a season high eight assists and five caroms in an 80-72 setback to Bethany Lutheran of Minnesota.

Horton currently leads the MASCAC in average points (26.6), average rebounds (11.1) while he is also second in the conference in defensive (6.9) and offensive rebounds (4.2), third free throw percentage (.852) and 11th in field goal percentage (.485).

During the week of December 12, Horton was third in all of Division III in points per game and ninth in rebounds per game.

The Lancers are currently 5-5 this season and will play two opponents on the road this week before opening up conference play. Tonight WSC will face local rival Anna Maria at 7:30 before hitting the hardwood again on Thursday against Salve Regina at 8 PM. Worcester State will open up MASCAC play against MCLA on Saturday at 5 PM.
