Box Score

Newport, RI --- Salve Regina University sophomore guard Windell Hinkson (Groton, CT) scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Seahawks over visiting Worcester State College, 82-73, in a non-league contest at Newport.

Salve Regina went scoreless for the first 4:46 of the game and trailed 10-0 before freshman forward Michael Dylag (Southbury, CT) sank a jumper to start a 25-6 run. A layup from sophomore forward Dan Royce (Mahwah, NJ) with 11:45 remaining in the first half put the Seahawks up one (17-16) and they would never trail again.

Both teams relied on scoring duos. For Worcester State (6-6), junior forward Patrick Hamilton (Templeton, MA) netted 24 points before fouling out with 1:07 left in the game. Junior forward Maurice Horton (Detroit, MI) scored 21 points, seven below his season average, and failed to lead the Lancers in scoring for the first time in a dozen games played. He did pull down a team-high 11 rebounds.

In addition to Hinkson, Salve Regina senior guard Justin Woodworth (Ipswich, MA) - the newest member of the Seahawk 1,000-point club - collected 21 points. Both Seahawk guards drained five 3-pointers apiece to give Salve Regina (4-7) its sixth double-digit output from behind the newly expanded arc in 11 games.

Lancer junior guard Elijah Sims (Worcester, MA) had a game-high seven assists while Seahawk guards Joe DeSantis (Trumbull, CT), Ryan Birrell (Hope, RI) and Hinkson had six, five, and four assists, respectively.

Salve Regina enjoyed its largest lead (69-49; 20 points) with 9:52 remaining in the game but Worcester State cut that deficit in half with an 11-0 run in just over two minutes. Royce, who finished with a double-double and a team-high 11 rebounds, started an 8-0 run for the Seahawks who kept the lead in double digits until a buzzer-beater by Lancer reserve Raynald Marc Voyard (Leominster, MA).

Salve Regina begins its The Commonwealth Coast Conference schedule with a game at Anna Maria College on Saturday 3 PM. Worcester State hosts MCLA for its first league (MASCAC) contest on Saturday 5.
