Bjorn, Rubenskas Recognized with MASCAC Basketball Weekly Accolades

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Worcester State University men's basketball players Erik Bjorn (Holden, Mass.) and Ryan Rubenskas (Bridgewater, Mass.) have been named recipients of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball weekly awards.

Bjorn was named Player of the Week, while Rubenskas was tabbed as Rookie of the Week, announced on Monday by the conference office.

Worcester State won both of their MASCAC games convincingly last week, defeating Fitchburg State 85-54 and then toping MCLA 96-71 on Saturday.

Bjorn had double-doubles in both wins for the Lancers this week, averaging 15 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 70% from the field (14-20). He finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks in the win over Fitchburg State, and then poured in 18 points and grabbed another 12 rebounds in the 96-home victory against the Trailblazers.

Rubenskas averaged 13 points and 7.5 rebounds in the 2-0 week for the Lancers. The sophomore forward was huge for the Lancers in their 85-54 win over Fitchburg State, pouring in 18 points on 6-10 shooting and 2-2 from three-point land. He also grabbed eight rebounds and had a pair of steals. Rubenskas tallied eight points, 7 rebounds and two assists in the 96-71 win over MCLA.

The two are both averaging double-digit points and shooting 51% from the floor on the season. Rubenskas is scoring 11.4 points per game, while Bjorn averages a double-double with 10.8 points and 12.1 rebounds, second best on the glass in the conference.

The Lancers will return to the floor tomorrow evening for a 7:30 pm road game against Framingham State.
