Plymouth, MA --- Senior Nick Lombardi (N.
Grafton, MA) took home the gold medal at the Babson Spring Opener
on Sunday after he posted a total round score of 145 strokes (+1)
to help lead Worcester State’s fifth place finish. After
firing a 74 on the 72 par Atlantic Country Club course, Lombardi
led all competitors with a score of 71 on the second day of
competition.
Salem State took the team title with a cumulative total of 621
after they improved to shoot 15 strokes lower than they did in the
opening round. The Vikings finish was followed by local rival
Nichols, WNEC and Bentley. The Lancers, who were tied for sixth,
finished 29 stokes off of the lead as a team.
Sophomore Bob Bruso (Auburn, MA) notched a total
score of 158 to finish tied for 11th at +14 while junior
Dave Urella (Worcester, MA) and Tim
Howard ended the day knotted in 43rd (172; +28) and 54th
(174; +30), respectively. Third-year Mike Leveroni
(Arlington, MA) rounded out the group in 69th with a two day stroke
total of 196 with an improvement of 10 strokes from the previous
day.
