Men's Golf Places Sixth at ECAC Championships

Farmington, CT --- Junior Bob Bruso (Auburn, MA) tied for seventh, just six strokes off the lead with a two-day total of 151, to help lead Worcester State finish in sixth at the ECAC Championships at the Tuxis Plantation Country Club over the weekend.  

The 45 hole Tuxis Plantation Country Club had the golfers compete on the par 70 "Green Course" in the opening round on Saturday and on the par 72 "White Course" on Sunday. The field also battled rain on Saturday afternoon as play was suspended and eventually resumed on Sunday morning.

The Lancers shot 322 as a team on the first day to settle for eighth and then improved their score by nine shots (313) to finish out for a total of 635 strokes in sixth. WSC also was just 26 shots off of first-place Endicotts lead of 609.

Bruso carded 77 (+7) on the first day before he rebounded with a solid score of 74 (+1) in the final round. Bruso was six shots off of leader Pat Pio of Nichols who was the medalist with a score of 146.

The other finishers for Worcester State included Chris Ellis (Charlton, MA) who tied for 22nd (159; +17), Dave Urella (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) (T30th, 160; +18), Mike Leveroni (Arlington, MA) (41st, 165; +23) and Chris Brunelle (Worcester, MA) (T57th, 175; +33). Urella and Leveroni each fired an 82 (+12) and an 84 (+14), respectively, and each improved their scores to 78 (+6) and 81 (+9) on the last round.

WSC has two matches in the next week at Rhode Islant College at Triggs Memorial Golf Course on Friday and at Nichols Webster-Dudley Golf Course on Sunday as warm-ups before the All-New Englands in two weeks.
