Men's Golf Takes Home 15th At Middlebury

Middlebury, MA --- Senior Bob Bruso (Auburn, MA) improved by one stroke to shoot a 73 (+2) on the second day of the Duke Nelson Invitational, but it wasn't enough as he tied for second individually on the par 71 Ralph Myhre course hosted by Middlebury College. The Lancers would finish in 15th place for a two-day total of 641.

Bruso, who carded a 147 for the tournament, couldn't beat the hot shooting of Peter Taylor (E. Greenwich, RI) of Wesleyan University's total of 146. Taylor would fire a 70 (-1) on the final day of competition to edge Bruso and Hamilton's Greg Scott (New Haven, VT) for medalist honors.

RPI would take home the team title with a cumulative score of 606 while 31 strokes seperated 10th place (UMass Dartmouth, 629) from 21st place (Springfield, 650) in an extremely deep field that included 25 teams.

Other finishers for the Lancers included senior Dave Urella (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) who had a total of 160 in a tie for 61st as classmate Chris Ellis (Charlton, MA/St. Peter Marian) tied for 70th just two strokes off of Urella's total. Sophomore Chris Brunelle (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) improved his score by four to finish in a tie for 110th (172) and fourth-year TJ Magnell (Leominster, MA) added a 184 to round out the group in 127th.

Worcester State will compete again next week when the team heads to the two-day Williams Invitational at Taconic golf course.
