Bruso Wins UMass Dartmouth Hampton Inn Invitational

N. Dartmouth, MA --- Senior Bob Bruso (Auburn, MA) claimed first-place honors this afternoon in a one-hole playoff at the two-day Hampton Inn Invitational, hosted by UMass Dartmouth at the par 72 Allendale Country Club. For Bruso this is sixth career medalist honor.

Bruso, who shot a 77 (+5) on the first day, handed in a card of 78 (+6) this afternoon and found himself in a four-way tie with Chris Hammel (Waterville, ME) of Husson, Tim Leigh (Somerset, MA) of Rhode Island College and Nick Zolotas (Peabody, MA) of Salem State. The playoff lasted just one round as everyone bogeyed the first hole to set the stage for Bruso to nail a three-foot putt for the rights to hoist the first-place medal.

Fourth-year TJ Magnell (Leominster, MA) shot a two-round score of 176 (+32) to tie for 52nd while sophomore Chris Ellis (Charlton, MA/St. Peter-Marian) fired an 87 (+15) on the second day after a team low-round  score of 103 (+31) for a total of 190 (+46, T86th).

Sophomore Dan Duclos added a score of 195 (+81, T84th) as Brian Gulino rounded out the squad in 87th (202; +58).

The Lancers placed in 17th as a team as they tallied 714 strokes (+138) while Salem State walked away with the team trophy with a score of 637 (+61).

Worcester State will compete next week at the two-day Johnson & Wales Wildcat Invitational at Cranston Country Club on Saturday and Sunday.
