Men's Golf Ties For 11th At Johnson & Wales Wildcat Invitational

 

Cranston, RI --- Senior Joe Belanger (Holden, MA) improved his score by three strokes to finish with a second-round score of an 80 (+9) as he helped lead the Worcester State men's golf team to tie for 11th place at the two-day Johnson & Wales Wildcat Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the par 71 Cranston Country Club.

The Lancers tied with Suffolk and Babson with 675 strokes (+107) as they were just 28 away from the top five.

The Blue and Gold also were five shots better than they were on the first day of the competition as Belanger was the top golfer with a final score of 163 (+21) in a tie for 30th - 13 strokes off of medalist Henry Fall of Elms.

Sophomore Bryan Dunham (Tolland, CT) equaled 39th with a score of 167 (+25) while freshman Zach Poirier (Sturbridge, MA) bettered his card by six strokes to tie for 57th (174, +32).

Second-year David Rixham (Northbridge, MA) and first-year Brendan Dugan (Sutton, MA) tied for 64th (180, +38). Dugan had the best improvement of the entire squad with an eight stroke differential on the second day of competition (86, +15).

The Lancers will host three championships on Tuesday afternoon at Blackstone National Golf Course in Sutton. They play host to the Rich Korzec Memorial Invitational, the MASCAC Championships and the Worcester City Cup.
