Men's Golf Places 10th After Hosting Rich Korzec Memorial Invitational

 

Sutton, MA --- Sophomore David Rixham (Northbridge, MA) carded an 80 (+8) for 20th to help pace the Worcester State men's golf team at the Rich Korzec Memorial Invitational at the par 72 Blackstone National Golf Course this afternoon.

Western New England won the 2013 title with a score of 309 while the Lancers were just 28 strokes off to place 10th overall (337). 10 strokes seperated eight teams from fourth place to 10th.

Junior Harry Kirkpatrick (Lancaster, MA) of Bentley was the medalist with a score of 74 (+2) to lead a field that included 90 participants.

The Worcester State Invitational, which has been held since 1997, was renamed for Rich Korzec, the longtime men's golf coach and associate director of facilites who passed away this past spring.

Freshman Jackson Davis (Spencer, MA) also tied for 21st with a score of 81 (+9). First-year Brendan Dugan (Sutton, MA) tied for 52nd (87, +15), classmate Zach Poirier (Sturbridge, MA) tied for 59th (89, +17) and senior Joe Belanger (Holden, MA) scored a 90 (+18) to tie for 62nd.

The Lancers also fielded a five-person "Blue" team which was led by senior Mark Evans (Ludlow, MA) who tallied a score of 97 (+25) for 75th and freshman Connor Guerin (Oxford, MA) scored a 93 (+21) as an individual competitor to tie for 71st.

WSU continues their season with the Franklin Pierce Invitational at The Shattuck tomorrow.
