Men's Golf Places Eighth At GNAC Championships

Cranston, RI --- Freshman Anthony Bement (Attleboro, MA) and classmate Patrick Sharron (Boylston, MA) both highlighted a strong finish for the Worcester State men's golf team in the final round of the GNAC Championships this afternoon at the par 71 Cranston Golf Club hosted by Johnson and Wales.

Rhode Island College successfully defended their title for the third straight year led by medalist Tim Leigh (Somerset, MA). The Anchormen, who scored 609 strokes as a team, receive the conference automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Tournament in the spring.

WSU bettered their first round score by 14 strokes to finish at 696, just 71 off the top four teams.

Bement equaled 30th place (169; +27) while junior David Rixham (Northbridge, MA) tied for 32nd (171; +29) and Sharron was right behind in a tie for 35th (175; +33). Bement shaved one stroke off his score with a low second round score of 84 while Sharron connected for an 85 in the final round.

Junior Bryan Dunham (Tolland, CT) shot three strokes better than yesterday to finish in 38th (187; +45).

The men's golf team wraps up their fall season at next week's NEIGA Tournament at Captains Golf Course in Brewster.
