Men’s Golf Places Fourth at Westfield State Golf Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Worcester State Lancers men's golf team placed fourth in the Westfield State Golf Invitational at the Tekoa Country Club Thursday afternoon (Oct. 8), as Rhode Island College's Tom Sheran won a sudden death playoff to take the tournament win.

Competing in the tournament were Westfield State, Rhode Island College, Wentworth, Nichols, Becker, Emmanuel, Albertus Magnus, and Newbury.

The Lancers came in fourth overall with a score of 331. They were just six strokes above third place contestants, Wentworth. Rhode Island College and Westfield State Blue ranked the top two spots, respectively.

The Lancers' lead player was sophomore Mike Jezierski (Thompson, Conn.) who came in tied at fifth place individually, carding a 75 on the golf course. Jezierski was just two strokes short of the tournament's top golfer who carded a 73.

"Mike had a chance to win. He was -3 through 13 holes, but faltered at the end," said head coach Mark Gurski. "Overall, he had an outstanding performance on the course today."

Senior Jackson Davis (Spencer, Mass.) and junior Patrick Sharron (Boylston, Mass.) came in 21st and 24th place respectively, scoring an 83 and 84 on the round.

Sophomore Brett Erelli (Lynn, Mass.) totaled 89 strokes, while sophomore Vinny Palazzi (Feedinghills, Mass.) tallied up 93 strokes on the afternoon.

The Blue and Gold will take about a week and a half break before they head onto the GNAC Championships for the weekend of Oct. 17-18, hosted by UMass Dartmouth at Allendale Country Club.
