BREWSTER, Mass. -- Teams from 37 colleges and universities across New England and New York gathered at The Captains Course in Brewster, MA, on Sunday and Monday, October 25-26, 2015 for the 81st Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Championship. One hundred and eighty-four golfers from Divisions I, II, III and Club teams competed. The NEIGA was pleased to have Cleveland Golf / Srixon return as the 'Presenting Sponsor".

The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) has been in existence since 1934 and includes member colleges and universities in New England and New York and is considered to be the oldest and largest college golf tournament. It is unique in that Divisions I, II, III and Club teams compete together at the same venue.

Rhode Island College, guided by Head Coach Greg Gammell, went back-to-back as Division III champs with a two-day total of 618, six strokes better than runners-up Salem State and Babson. The Anchormen made up a two-shot deficit thanks in part to DIII medalist Jonathan Cooper was finished with a two-day total of 147 to win by a stroke.

The Worcester State Lancers were tied at seventh place after the first day of competition, but dropped to 12th place after the final round of play on Monday. The team tallied 316 strokes on round one, and then carded a 327 on day two to total 643 (+67) – just one stroke behind 11th place Husson University, and seven strokes behind Endicott college and Tufts University who tied for 9th.

"Monday's event concluded the most successful season that Worcester State has had as a team in a decade," said head coach Mark Gurski. "The team refused to give up even when the conditions were tough and they had to scramble to save rounds."

Two Lancers placed in the top 20 on the two rounds of play on the par-72 Captains Course. Senior captain, Jackson Davis (Spencer, Mass.), placed tied at 10th place with an overall score of 154 (76-78). Not far behind him was sophomore Mike Jezierski (Thompson, Conn.) who totaled 156 (77-79) on the two rounds of play, tied at 18th.

Junior Steven Ferraro (Leicester, Mass.) finished tied at 55th with a total of 163 strokes (81-82). Junior Patrick Sharron (Boylston, Mass.) and sophomore Eddie Peladeau (Douglas, Mass.) rounded up the golfers for Worcester State at the 81st and 88th spots with scores of 170 (82-88) and 173 (85-88), respectively.

"I couldn't be more proud of the players and how they performed," stated Gurski. "This season should give them a huge boost of confidence going into the spring. They now know they can compete with the top schools in New England and will be working hard to improve over the winter."
