Lancers Jump Two Spots on Day Two at Elms Invitational

BELCHERTOWN, Mass. – Worcester State finished 11th at the Elms College Invitational this weekend, completing the two-day tournament with a second round of 18 that jumped them up two spots in the 14-team field.

Freshman Jack Ryan (Wakefield, Mass.) shot a 78 on Sunday, while Blake Thorne (Bridgewater, Mass.) carded an 81 on his second round to help the Lancers improve by 23 strokes as a team from day one to day two.

Ryan finished tied for 20th overall in a field of 69 student athletes. Ryan had the best round on both days for Worcester State, shooting 83 on Saturday and finishing the event at 19 over par.

Thorne finished 47th overall with a 182 total. Marc Melanson (Natick, Mass.) was 54th with rounds of 99 and 94, while Brodie Coughlin (North Brookfield, Mass.) tied for 56th place and Jacob Barrett (Wakefield, Mass.) placed 62nd for Worcester State.

Tufts University won the event with four players in the top five, including Travis Clauson and Jack Meehan, who both shot 146 for the event.

Worcester State concludes its fall season with the NEIGA Championship next Sunday and Monday. The two-day tournament will be held at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
