Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Men’s Golf Team finished ranked fifth in the MASCAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, as announced Thursday by the league.
The team finished 5th in the MASCAC Championship last fall, keeping them in line with preseason poll results. With seasoned veterans, and a new coach taking charge, the team is looking to surpass expectations and make a run for the title. Leading the conference in the results with six first place votes is Salem State with 48 points, followed by Springfield with 39 points, and one first place vote, followed closely by Westfield with 37 points and the last first place vote. Sitting eight points ahead of Worcester State is Mitchell College with 32 points to the Lancers 26. Returning this season for the Lancers is Max Joyner. At last year’s championship, he collected a total score of 137 (47-90) to finish 29th overall and help the Lancers to a fifth-place team finish. Falling behind Worcester is New England College, MCLA and Eastern Nazarene.
Men’s Golf hits the course for their first match on September 22 at the Brett Williamson Invitational at Westfield State. Tee time is currently slated for 10am.
