Second-Place Curry Defeats Lancers, 9-2

Milton, MA --- Leading 3-2 entering the third period, Curry scored six unanswered goals to post a 9-2 victory this evening over visiting Worcester State College in ECAC Northeast action on Thursday evening.

The Colonels (16-4-2, 12-1-1) jumped on the board with three markers from freshman John Williams (Flourtown, PN), senior Jeffery Hazelwood (Dublin, CA) and first-year Payden Benning (Estevan, Saskatchawan) within the first 13 minutes of the contest. Starting goalie Andrew Evans (Crowell, CT) gave way to third-year reserve Brian Robinson (Groveland, MA) after at the 8:24 mark, after the second tally.

WSC, however, would cut the deficit to end the first period with freshman John Cahalane’s (Tewksbury, MA) team-leading 10th goal of the year while junior Lee Belisle (Chicopee, MA) and rookie Cody Warila (Shirley, MA) each notching helpers at 17:47.

Warila opened the second stanza just 24 seconds into the period to make the score 3-2 with assists from Cahalane and Belisle to make the score a close contest. Robinson would then hold off 19 second-half shots to keep the score right where it was entering the final frame of play.

Curry dominated the third as the squad broke the game open with five goals in a nine minute span midway through period. Freshman Michael Guzzo (Pickney, MI) got the scoring started with a power-play goal at 4:15. Junior Ross Enmark (Shelby Township, MI) also sent in a pair of goals in around Guzzo’s second tally to make the score 6-2.

First-year Jonathan Miller (Freehold, NJ) notched his third assist of the game when senior Jeremy Hmura (New Lenox, IL) added with a marker to close the run at 15:19. Colonels sophomore Alex Hoffman (Scituate, MA) closed the game with his first goal of the year at 18:10 for the final score.

Evans and Robinson combined for 39 saves in the contest while junior Zachary Cardella (Spokhane, WA) collected 21 stops between the pipes for Curry.

The Lancers will travel to Salve Regina on Presidents Day for a noontime game while the Colonels play their next contest on the road at Johnson and Wales for a 7:30 face-off.
