Johnson & Wales Edges Lancers 2-1 in Victory to End WSC’s Season

Auburn, MA --- Junior Stephen Pfeiffer (Queens, NY) potted a pair of goals - including the decisive marker in the second period - to help lift Johnson and Wales to a 2-1 victory this evening over Worcester State in ECAC Northeast action this evening at Horgan Rink.

With the win the Wildcats improve their record to 9-13-3 and 8-7-3 in the ECAC NE while the Lancers end their season at 6-15-3 and 4-10-3 in the conference. J & W awaits word on the seedings for the ECAC Northeast Tournament which will start on Saturday.

The contest was resumed from a postponed contest on January, 20 and play began with the Lancers up 1-0 at the beginning of the second period of play. Sophomore Chris Wallin (Avon, CT) gave WSC the lead at 9:37 in the opening stanza on assists by senior Bill Knauber (Buffalo, NY) and third-year Lee Belisle (Chicopee, MA).

Johnson and Wales did their damage in the second period on the first of Pfeiffer's goals at 10:26 with helpers from freshman Jeremiah Ketts (Foristell, MO) and classmate Joe Sullivan (Chicago, IL). 3½ minutes later, Pfeiffer then notched his team-leading 13th tally on a short-handed goal on a dish by Ketts to secure the Wildcats lead for good.

J & W sophomore JR Woodland (Picton, Ontario) recorded the win in the cage as he finished the evening with 13 saves.

Junior Brian Robinson (Groveland, MA) started the second period in relief of classmate Andrew Evans (Cromwell, CT) and the pair combined to collect 41 saves in the loss.

The teams combined for 0-7 on power play opportunities while the Wildcats outshot the Lancers 41-14 in the contest.

Kauber was honored in a pre-game ceremony and he ends his career with six goals, with four coming this season, and 22 assists for a total of 28 points.
