Becker 4, Worcester State 3 OT
Auburn, MA --- Just 29 seconds into overtime, junior winger
Jared Kersner (Rockville, MO) notched the game-winning goal to lift
Becker, 4-3, over Worcester State this evening at Horgan Memorial
Rink in ECAC Northeast Conference action. With the win the Hawks
improve their record to 2-3 and 1-2 in the league while the Lancers
slip to 2-4 and 1-3 with the loss.
John Cahalane (Tewksbury, MA) started the scoring
for the Lancers with the only tally of the first stanza at on a
feed from classmate Nick Asterito (Philadelphia,
PA) and sophomore Mark Elia (Millville, MA).
In a wild second period, Becker tied the score on a goal by
sophomore Andrew Corvo (Oak Park, IL) at 6:07. The
Lancers promptly scored the go-ahead score a little over a minute
later on a put-back by junior Mark Rintel (Queens,
NY) from senior Bill Knauber (Buffalo, NY).
The Hawks then scored the next two goals on markers by freshman
Erik Norquist (Jarfalla, Sweden) and Chris
Reilly (Lexington, MA) to give Becker a 3-2 lead at the
end of the second stanza.
With two men of the ice midway through the third, the Lancers took
advantage of a power play and scored the equalizer at when
sophomore Chris Wallin (Avon, CT) knocked in an
unassisted goal at 11:34.
Both team's traded several shots back and forth before heading to
extra frames.
Worcester State won the face-off, but Becker took control of the
puck and sent in their first crack at the opposing net when Kersner
hit a shot right underneath goalkeeper Andrew
Evan's (Cromwell, CT).
Evan's finished the contest with 33 saves while his counterpart,
freshman netminder Jake Rosenthal (Wantagh, NY)
stopped 22 of the 25 shots he faced.
Both teams will face conference opponents on Tuesday evening. The
Lancers will host WNEC at 5:30 while the Hawks will entertain
Westfield State at 7 PM.
