DeWitz Named MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week

Westfield, MA --- Worcester State freshman Alex DeWitz (Oronoco, MN/Helena Bighorns) has been tabbed this week's MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week for his remarkable performance in a triumph over Fitchburg State this past weekend.

DeWitz registered a trio of goals in a 5-3 victory over Fitchburg State with all three tallies coming in the final stanza. Down 3-2 with 10:46 left in regulation, DeWitz netted the game-tying and match clinching markers 82 seconds apart.

He then turned his first collegiate hat-trick in the waning moments off a short-handed, empty net goal to cap a thrilling Lancer victory. After being whistled for consecutive penalties with 2:00 left, DeWitz and the defense held off a late five on three power play attempt by the Falcons for a span of 1:12 of game time and an extra Fitchburg State skater with a man off the ice for the Blue and Gold in the last minute of the contest.

DeWitz currently ties for the team lead in goals (5) and he is second on the squad in points (9). Among first-year players in the MASCAC, he is seventh in goals and points.

Worcester State (6-6-1, 2-5-1 MASCAC), winners of their last two games, have three contests in the next week. They head to Becker on Tuesday for a 7:45 matchup and will host Framingham State at 5:45 PM on Thursday. WSU closes out the week with a 6 o'clock faceoff against Plymouth State.
