Men’s Ice Hockey Shutout by Plymouth State, 5-0

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team shutout the Worcester State University Lancers 5-0 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup Thursday evening at the Hart Recreation Center.

With the win, Plymouth State advances to 11-5-2 and 9-1-1 in MASCAC play. The Panthers snapped the Lancers' 3-game winning streak and Worcester State dips to 6-8-3 and 4-5-2 in the conference.

Following a scoreless and evenly played first period, Plymouth State came out shooting in the second and scored three goals on 18 shots.

The scoring started just two minutes in when Ludvig Steenberg (Stockholm, Sweden) made a lateral pass behind the net to Dan Dupell (Collegeville, Pa.) who then looped the puck in front of the net on the left side for Quinn Carroll (Amherst, N.H.) to clear it into the back left of the net.

The visitors doubled their lead 9:01 into the second period when Riley Flanagan (Weymouth, Mass.) scored just outside the crease following forward passes from Victor Bergstrom (Angelholm, Sweden) and Ryan Stevens (Colleyville, Texas). A minute later, Plymouth State added another tally to the scoreboard on a breakaway from Dupell.

Ahead 3-0 going into the final period, the Panthers added two more goals from Kyle Orgel (El Segundo, Calif.) and Teddy McCarran (Derry, N.H.) in the 12th and 19th minute to conclude the shutout at 5-0.

Throughout the game, Plymouth State held a 33-19 shooting edge on the Lancers.

Plymouth State's Thierry Messervier (Chambly, Que.) earned the shutout in a 19-save performance. Worcester State's starting goalkeeper, Josh Reinstein (Woodland Hills, Calif.) suffered the loss as he stopped 13-of-16 shots in the first 30:32 minutes of play. Cory Lignelli (Glastonbury, Conn.) relieved Reinstein with 29:28 to go in the game and recorded 15 saves on the evening.

Next up, Worcester State heads to Salem State on Saturday for a 2 p.m. matchup, while the Panthers return home and host Westfield State in a 6 p.m. game.
