Hawks Blank Lancers in Non-Conference Men's Ice Hockey

Worcester, Mass. – The Worcester State University men's hockey team fell to the visiting Hawks of St. Anselm, 4-0, Saturday evening at the Worcester Ice Center in non-conference action.  The win keeps St. A's perfect on the year improving to, 3-0 while the Lancers fall to 0-4 on the young season.

St. Anselm commanded the first period of action outshooting the Lancers 23-3 in the first frame. The Hawks jumped out to a, 1-0, lead on a goal by Matt Hayes (Salem, N.H.) at the 8:33 mark with assists credited to line mates Kilian Hammersmith (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Andrew Andary (Macomb, Mich.).

The Hawks extended the lead to, 2-0 when that line struck again this time Andary finding the back of the net with assists from Hayes and Hammersmith.

The second period saw play even out a bit with the shots favoring St. Anselm, 11-10, with nobody getting on the board.

Andary stuck for his second goal of the game at 8:08 of the third period to effectively put the game out of reach.

Thomas Schwartz (Ridgefield, Conn.) scored a late empty netter for the, 4-0, final.

Worcester State netminder Nevin Tardif (Dunstable, Mass.) stopped 41 shot on the night while counterpart, Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) made 24 saves in earning the win.

The Lancers return to action on Thursday when they travel to Franklin Pierce University.  St. Anselm will host Stonehill College next Friday.
