Lancers Win Third Straight, Earn First Shutout of 2021

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The Worcester State men's ice hockey team collected their third straight win with their first shutout of the season, a 4-0 victory over Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe Framingham State on Thursday evening at Loring Arena.

Jakub Kubik (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic) made 26 saves to earn his first career shutout and the Lancers outshot the Rams 61-26 to improve to 3-4 (2-1 MASCAC).

Senior Nick Pennucci (Worcester, Mass.) had a goal and an assist for Worcester, who return home to host Plymouth State on Saturday evening at 8:10 PM.

The Lancers scored just 1:48 into the first period when Mike Wilson (Alexandria, Va.) scored his second goal of the year. Wilson finished off his own rebound after being setup by Will Ahearn (Charlestown, Mass.) to give Worcester a 1-0 advantage.

The visitors extended their lead 14 minutes into the period when Kevin Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.) sent a strike in off the glove of Rams goalie Blake Carlson to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Carlson made 57 saves in the loss for the Rams.

Worcester added to the lead midway through the second period when Pennucci intercepted a pass in the neutral zone, carried it into the zone and finished into the top right corner.  They made it a four-goal game when Brendan Ronan (Saugus, Mass.) finished off a pass from Deiter Stange (Niles, Ill.) late in the third to reach the final margin.

While the Lancers host the Panthers in MASCAC play Saturday at Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center, the Rams (1-6, 0-4 MASCAC) will head to Westfield State for more conference action.
