Lancers Fall to Corsairs in 2022 Return

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. - Back on the ice for the first time in over month, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth hockey team defeated Worcester State, 4-2, Saturday night at Hetland Arena.

For the Lancers (6-7, 4-3 MASCAC), junior Kevin Drevitch (Oxford, N.J.) and freshman Bridgham Neuhold (Edmond, Okla.) each scored.

5th-year senior Kai Kapossy netted two goals for the Corsairs (7-5-1, 4-2-1 MASCAC), while junior Clay Ellerbrock scored the game winner and graduate student Dillon Radin sent home his MASCAC leading 10th goal of the season. Junior Daniel Davidson finished with 26 saves to earn the win.

It only took until the 3:11 mark of the first period for Worcester State to score the first goal of the game. Drevitch from senior Nick Pennucci (Worcester, Mass.) and sophomore Jason Lee (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) made it a 1-0 game.

The Corsairs then scored three consecutive goals. Kapossy was first from junior Jake Maynard with 6:15 on the clock. Radin with assists from junior Sky Silverstein and Stephon Perrault at the 12:52 mark of the second period made it a 2-1 UMass Dartmouth lead, and Ellerbrock went unassisted with 7:24 on the clock in the third to extend the advantage to 3-1.

Just over a minute later, Worcester State's Neuhold scored a power-play goal from Lee and junior Deiter Stange (Niles, Ill.) to cut its deficit to 3-2.

Freshman Jakub Kubik (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic) made 36 saves as the Lancers were outshot 40-28.

The Lancers pulled Kubik with 1:37 to go in regulation and Kapossy found space to send home his second goal of the night from Radin to put the game away.

UMass Dartmouth is at Plymouth State next for a 6 p.m. start on Thursday. Worcester State is set to play Westfield State on January 13th at 6:40 PM.
