Lancers, Panthers Skate to 3-3 Tie

HOLDERNESS, N.H. -- Worcester State scored twice within six seconds to take a 3-2 lead but settled for a 3-3 tie against Plymouth State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Thursday evening at Hanaway Rink.

Max Roth (Chicago, Ill.) and Matt Kowal (Monson, Mass.) scored at 3:39 and 3:45 of the third period for the Lancers, who record their first tie of the season, and are now 6-7-1 (4-3-1 MASCAC).

Jakub Kubik (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic) made a career-high 42 saves, improving his record to 5-3-1 on the year between the pipes for the Lancers.

Worcester was 2-6 on the power play, notching their first goal with an extra skater at 16:24 of the second period when Brendan Ronan (Saugus, Mass.) scored on a feed from Max Tucker (Kalamazoo, Mich.). That pulled the Lancers back to within a goal heading to the final frame.

Ronan helped set up Roth's power play goal, and now has a team-high 13 points on the year. Christian Phinney (Draper, Utah) also picked up an assist before Kowal scored an unassisted goal, his second of the season.

Worcester State had an extended 5-on-3 in the late stages of the third period and a 4-on-3 power play in overtime, but couldn't get a shot past Brendahn Brawley, who made 29 stops for the Panthers (8-4-2, 5-1-2).

The Lancers will be on the road Saturday when they play at Salem State at 2:00 PM.
