Worcester State Bests Framingham State, 5-1 in Men's Ice Hockey

Framingham, Mass. – The Worcester State men's ice hockey team skated to a 5-1 victory over Framingham State in MASCAC action Thursday evening at Loring Arena.  

Worcester State evens their MASCAC record at 6-6-1, and is now 9-10-1 on the year, while Framingham State drops to 2-16 (1-12 MASCAC), Worcester State (9-10-1, 6-6-1 MASCAC) 

The Lancers opened up scoring in the 14th minute when Ian Hoffmann skated around a defender and sent in from the faceoff circle that clanged off the post and into the net for the 1-0 lead. It was Hoffmann's first collegiate goal.  

They extended their lead early in the second when Mike Wilson backhanded in a cross from Max Tucker to beat Rams keeper Trevor Stenberg.  

Less than a moment later, Jack Kroll sniped in a shot just over the glove of Stenberg to push the Lancers advantage to 3-0. The two team would reach the second intermission with Lancers up 3-0 after killing off a five-minute major in the final minutes of the period.  

Early in the third the Lancers pushed their lead to four when Drew Eid converted on the power play with an assist coming from Max Roth.  

The Rams got on the board in the 7th minute of the third when Ashton Collazo sent one into the cage on a delayed penalty. The Rams would not be able to cash in on the ensuing powerplay.  

The Lancers were tripped on a breakaway in the final minutes of regulation which set up a Max Tucker penalty shot conversion to reach the final margin.  

Wyatt Friedlander made 25 stops in the win for the Lancers while Trevor Stenberg made 36 saves in the setback for the Rams, who were outshot 41-26.  

The visitors were 1-for-5 on the man advantage to the Rams 1-for-6 mark.  

The Rams return to the ice Saturday evening when they head to Westfield for a 5:35pm MASCAC clash with the Owl. The Lancers will host Plymouth State on the same evening at 7:30pm.
