Worcester Falls in Home Opener

Worcester Falls in Home Opener

Worcester, MA-Worcester State's Men's hockey team played its official home opener this afternoon, hosting the Rivier Raiders in non-conference action. Looking to build off Thursday's win on the road against UMass-Dartmouth, the Lancers were unable to get on a winning streak, dropping this one by a score of 5-1.

Worcester State was outmatched throughout much of the game. They were only able to get 24 shots off while the Raiders got 35, which was reflected in the final score of the game. The Raider goalie was up to just about every challenge the Lancers gave him, the only exception being a junior Drew Eid (Gorham, ME) goal. That came 11 minutes and 52 seconds into the second period on a puck that came loose right in front of the net that Eid was able to put over the goalie's left pad.

At the time, the Eid goal tied the game up at one a piece, but Worcester State would surrender four straight unanswered goals throughout the rest of the second of the game. An empty netter with just under five minutes to go capped off the scoring, as Rivier came away with their first win of the season.

The Lancers, now 1-3-0, will not play again until Nov. 17. Rivier leaves today's matchup with a record of 1-1-1.
