Benjamin, Gustafson Selected To All-MASCAC Men's Soccer Team

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Junior teammates Kerlenz Benjamin (Cambridge, MA) and DJ Gustafson (Webster, MA) have each been named to the All-MASCAC second team in a vote by the leagues eight head coaches on Monday.

Benjamin, who earned the accolade on the second-team last season, had a solid season at center mid. While he did not find the back of the net or notch a helper this season, he helped anchor a unit that notched 11 goals and 10 assists. The team's assist total is up three from last season when the team had only seven.

Gustafson receives the nod to his first all-conference squad. Gustafson, a center back, was a veteran presence for a backfield rotation that featured two first-year players. He was instrumental in reducing the amount of goals that crossed through the pipes by 12 as they finished the year only allowing 27 markers. The Lancers were fifth as a team in goals against average (1.68).

Gustafson also recorded his lone tally of the season in a 2-1 setback to Trinity.

Under first-year head coach Jason Willis, the Lancers improved their win total by three to finish the year at 5-12. WSU posted 1-0 wins over Salem State and Fitchburg State in their last two contests. In their triumph over Salem State the Blue and Gold snapped a 13-game losing streak against MASCAC opponents which dated all the way back to the end of the 2008 season.
