WORCESTER, Mass. – The Salem State men's soccer remains undefeated in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) as they shutout Worcester State by a score of 2-0 in a Saturday afternoon matchup.

1^ST HALF

Salem State began the scoring seven minutes into the game, when Mayele Malango (Lowell, Mass.) tallied his 13^th goal of the season. Following a throw-in, freshman midfielder Nahuel Aligbay (Leominster, Mass.) sent a through pass to Malango on the left side who then fired the ball into the right side of the net, past Worcester State's goaltender, Jason Barrett (Spencer, Mass.) who was positioned on the left side of the net. Salem State saw one other shot on goal in the half, but Barrett made an impressive save to hold the Vikings at one. In the last 15 minutes of the half, Worcester State saw its first shot of the game, however the ball went wide. Momodou Kabareh (Worcester, Mass.) was the only Lancers to put a shot on net in the stanza.

2^ND HALF

The Vikings added an insurance goal mid-way through the second half when Ryan Smith (Shelton, Conn.) tallied his fourth goal of the season following a corner kick. The ball bounced around inside the box, and Smith found his foot on the ball, which slid past Barrett for the 2-0 gain. Worcester State ended the game with three shots, however, all three were not on net, resulting in the 2-0 shutout for the Vikings

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Malango and Smith were the only Vikings to record a shot on net (Malango had three, Smith had one).
• Worcester State's two shots on net came from Kabareh and Andre Ipojuca (Saugus, Mass.)
• Salem State's Chris Jimenez (Nashua, N.H.) earned the win in net, making two saves in the 90-minutes played.
• The Lancers' Barrett was tabbed the loss, also in a 2-save performance.
• Salem State held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks, while Worcester State held a slight edge in shots 8-7.

The Worcester State men's soccer team returns at home on Thursday (Oct. 19) in a 7 p.m. non-conference game against UMass Dartmouth.
