Men's Soccer Dropped by UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass.- The Worcester State University men's soccer team was dropped 3-0 by UMass Boston Wednesday evening at James Cotter Field.

With the loss the Lancers drop to 0-3-1 on the season while the Beacons advance to 3-1.

Worcester State had the first opportunity of the night when Zacary Crawford (Lebanon, Conn.) sent a ball to the lower left hand side of the net that was saved by goalie, JJ Devine (Halifax, Mass.). Just over two minutes later the Beacons found their first goal of the night when Nilton de Andrade (Fogo, Cape Verde) put one past the Lancers' defense. De Andrade picked up an assist of the night a little later in the half when Josh DeAlmeida (Revere, Mass.) managed to get past keeper, Andy Ramirez (Waltham, Mass.).

The second half of the game was a defensive battle between both team. Worcester State was hungry to find the net, but was unable to capitalize on opportunities. Alexander Papageourgiou (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Fidel Castro (Auburn, Mass.) had back to back shots, but didn't find the back of the net. The Beacons sealed the win with a goal in the 80th minute of play.

The Beacons had 17 shots on the night and held the Lancers to just 4. Ramirez saved 5 shots for the Lancers between the posts.

The Lancers return to action Saturday, on Homecoming, to open up conference play against MCLA. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m.
