Men's Soccer Falls to MCLA

WORCESTER, Mass.- The Worcester State University men's soccer team lost 2-1to open up Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference play against opponent MCLA, on Saturday afternoon at John F. Coughlin Memorial Field. 

With the loss the Lancers fall to 0-4-1 on the season and start conference play 0-1. The Trailblazers improve to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

The Lancers came out hungry in the first half and put themselves up ahead early when Santino Romeo (Sutton, Mass.) got his first goal of the season. He sent it right into the middle of the net after being set up by Alexander Papageourgiou (Tewksbury, Mass.). Sophomores Matt Alzamora (Holden, Mass.) and Manny Ramirez (Waltham, Mass.) both tried to use their head to put the ball in net, but both just missed high. Junior Florent (Spring Valley, N.Y.) had the best opportunity to put the Trailblazers on the board in the first half, but the just hit the crossbar.

The Trailblazers came out of the locker room looking to score. Cola Bean (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) posted himself high and it proved successful for MCLA. He managed to get one past Andy Ramirez (Waltham, Mass.) off an assist from Paolo Kareh (Adams, Mass.). Three minutes later Bean sent one right off the fingertips of Ramirez unassisted to put the Trailblazers up 2-0. The Lancers kept fighting, but were unable to put any more points on the board.

MCLA's goalkeeper Sam Edge (Williamstown, Mass.) ended the day with four saves. Lancer goalkeeper Ramirez came up with two for the day.

The Lancers return to action Tuesday with a game at Anna Maria. Kickoff is slated for 6pm.
