Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Worcester State men's soccer closed out their 2021 regular season with a 2-1 defeat to Massachusetts Maritime in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Friday afternoon at Clean Harbors.

The Lancers fall to 3-10-1 (2-5 MASCAC) and will await tomorrow afternoon's other results to see if they qualify for the 2021 MASCAC tournament. A quarterfinals match would take place on the road next week.

Matt Alzamora (Holden, Mass.) scored just over a minute before halftime to tie the game at one for Worcester, with an assist coming from Cyrus Raines (Belchertown, Mass.) on the play.

Maritime won the contest with a dramatic strike in the final six minutes. Jake McInerney (Hanover, Mass.) got credit for the game-winner, with Ty Chafa (Quincy, Mass.) scoring the other goal for Maritime. Chafa's strike gave the hosts the lead in the 16th minute as Maritime improved to 6-11 (3-4 MASCAC).
