Worcester, MA- Head Coach Aidan Abolfazli announces the release of the 2022 Worcester State Men’s Soccer schedule. The 2022 season will be the second season for Abolfazli’s after taking over for Jason Willis who step down at the end of the cancelled 2020 season after 11 years with the program. The 2022 season will look to see the Men’s Soccer team build back to the success of the past and build off the ground work of 2021 campaign. The team will be led by Junior Matt Alzamora, a returning MASCAC All-Conference second team selection and team leader in assists, and a talented group of energetic returners and recruits to add further depth to the squad.
The men begin their season with a September 1st rescheduling of last years cancelled matchup at WPI before returning back to Worcester State for their home opener afternoon showdown with Rhode Island Anchorman on the 3rd. The following weekend sees the Lancers again with an away-home split with a trip to New London, CT to square up again Mitchell College before another Saturday home matchup, this time facing off Emmanuel College. The remainder of the September schedule sees one lone home game against UMass Boston, before four straight games on the road, starting with the MASCAC opener versus MCLA on September 16th, followed by trips to Springfield, Fitchburg and finally Milton to square off against Curry College.
The Lancers return home, after the two-week stretch, with a 2:30pm game time against Westfield State to host their MASCAC home opener. The squad quickly returns to the road-home splits with away matches set versus Clark, Salem State and MIT, and Coughlin field seeing action against Bridgewater and Framingham State. The final regular season games keep the Lancers at John F. Coughlin Field with a Thursday night lights battle versus Keene State before wrapping up the season, and the conference schedule, with an afternoon showdown against Mass Maritime Academy, with plans to see Abolfazli and the team celebrating their graduating seniors prior to the game.
