Three School Marks Fall At Open New Englands For Men's Indoor Track

 

Men's Indoor Track Ranked Ninth In Week 6 USTFCCCA DIII Regional Poll

Boston, MA --- The Worcester State men's track and field team had two notable relay performances and a couple of solid field marks on Saturday afternoon at the Open New England Championships at Boston University.

The 4x800 meter relay team that was comprised of junior classmates Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA), Kerry Sabanty (Stoughton, MA), Greg Babiec (Worcester, MA/Doherty) and freshman Patrick Bova (Princeton, MA) eclipsed the school record that was set four years ago at BU with 19th place (7:57.67). The old standard was 8:01.25.

The 4x400 meter relay team that was made up of sophomores Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA), Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA), Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) and junior Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) finished with 16th place and a time of 3:21.64.

Both relay teams stamped their tickets for next weeks ECAC Division III Championships at the NYC Armory.

Freshman Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) and Paquin placed 16th (6.21m/20-04.50) and 18th (6.11m/20-00.50) in the long jump, respectively, while sophomore Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) cleared 1.94 meters (6-4.25) in the high jump for 15th overall.

 




Fridays Release

Boston, MA --- Junior teammates Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) and Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) reset their own school records as they helped lead the men's indoor track and field team on Friday afternoon at the Open New England Championships hosted by Boston University.

Parrella timed 1:06.98 for 18th place in the 500 meters and the third-best finish for a Division III student-athlete as he surpassed the time that he set earlier this season at the Harvard Open.

Mazieka would clock 2:35.36 to finish in 23rd overall in the 1,000 to eclipse the mark he set at the MIT Co-Ed Invitational last month.

Other finishers for the Lancers included Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) who registered 19th in both the 60 (7.15) and the 200 (22.40). Paquin was just off from stamping his ticket to Saturday's semifinals and he had the third-highest finish for a DIII athlete.

Freshman Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) had a personal-best time in the 60 meter hurdles (7.22) while he placed 21st in the 60 meters (8.63).

Third-year Kerry Sabanty (Stoughton, MA) tallied 23rd in the 500 (1:07.63) as both him and Parrella stamped thier ticket to next week's ECAC Division III Championships at the NYC Armory.

Junior Harrison McCann (Rutland, MA) rounded out the finishers with a toss of 21st in the weight throw (14.62m/47-11.75).
