#15 Men's Indoor Track Impresses With Top 20 Finish At New England Championships

 

Boston, MA --- Junior Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) was the finalist in the 60 meter hurdles with the fifth fastest time in Division III history (7.99) as he was instrumental in leading the Lancers to tie for 18th place at the Open New England Championships this afternoon.

The 46th Annual event features the best in New England representing all Division I, II and III institutions at Boston University. Southern Connecticut ran away with the title while the Lancers tallied 12.5 points to place inside the top 20 for the fourth time in program history.

Senior Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) was the other point scorer for the Blue and Gold as he tied for fourth in the high jump (6-6.25/1.99m) for his first career Open New England honors during the indoor meet. Junior David Germain (Malden, MA) also ended his day just out of the running for placing, tying for ninth (6-4.25).

Johnson and Gibson were both recognized for their outstanding achievements as the MASCAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively. Gibson also copped his fifth consecutive ECAC Division III New England Track Athlete of the Week accolade.

Junior Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) stayed inside the top 50 nationally in the 60 meter hurdles with 10th in the semifinals (8.41) while he wrapped up his day 14th in the 60 (7.25) right behind senior Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) who took home 12th (7.14).

The 4x400 meter relay that featured Paquin leading off, Gibson third, junior Stephen Gannon (Mansfield, MA) and freshman Jared Barros (Taunton, MA) teamed for 14th overall (3:21.70) for the eighth-fastest split for a Division III relay squad.

The Lancers continue their postseason run at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Northeastern at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Boston, MA --- Senior Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH) along with junior teammates Terrence Gibson (Rockland, MA) and Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) qualified for the semifinals of their respective events to help pace the #15 Worcester State men's indoor track and field team at the Open New England Championships.

Gibson blazed the track with the top time in his heat of the 60 meter hurdles (8.13) and the third lowest time overall before he wrapped up his day by tying 15th fastest 200 meter time in Division III and the fourth fastest split overall in the trials (21.81).

Truong qualified for the next round of competion with 10th in the 60 meter hurdles (8.45) and 15th in the 60 (7.13) while Paquin clocked 13th (7.10) in the 60 meters to earn a berth to the semifinals.

Junior Stephen Gannon (Foxboro, MA) rounded out the finishers on the first day with 23rd place in the 400 (50.35).
