Men’s Indoor Track & Field Takes Second Place at MASCAC Championship

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Worcester State University's Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.) and Jared Barros (Taunton, Mass.) were crowned Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) champions in their respective events Saturday afternoon. The men's indoor track & field team took a second place finish in the MASCAC Championship, and fifth in the Alliance Championship which included teams from the Little East Conference (LEC).

 

Weeks registered a top throw of 15.13m in the weight throw, and threw for a distance of 15.36m in the shot put event. Right behind him in the weight throw was freshman Anthony Christo (Peabody, Mass.) at second place with a finals distance of 14.79m. Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) and Mike Piantedosi (Stow, Mass.) placed fifth and sixth in the event. Vieira and Christo came in third and fourth places, respectively, in the shot put event.

 

Barros was atop of the MASCAC results in the 200 Meter Run, as he finished in 23.05. Benjamin Dussault (Assonet, Mass.) and Anthony Lawson (Randolph, Mass.) filled in the third and fourth places at 23.36 and 23.53, respectively. Barros also placed third in the 60 Meter Dash with a time of 7.08, while senior Duy Truong (Worcester, Mass.) came in behind at fourth. Lawson placed third in the 400 Meter Dash at 52.42.

 

Truong participated in the 60 Meter hurdles and took a second place finish with a finals time of 8.60. He also placed second in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.70m. Worcester's Markiesh Harmon (Leominster, Mass.) placed fourth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump. Elijah Mawejje (Woburn, Mass.) came in sixth in the long jump and fourth in the high jump with a distance of 1.93m.

 

Jeffrey Davis (Old Lyme, Conn.) marked fourth place in the men's 800 Meter Run, while Patrick Scheeler (Wakefield, Mass.) came in third in the 1000 Meter Run. In the lead for Worcester in the mile run was Devin Luce (Milford, Mass.) with a fifth place finish in a time of 4:40.98.

 

The group of Dussault, Charles Newman (Westfield, Mass.), Christian Cedullo (Salem, Mass.), and Adam Scerra (Marlboro, Mass.) worked towards a second place finish in the 4x200 Meter Relay. Worcester marked a third place finish in the 4x400 Meter, and a fourth place finish in the 4x800 Meter Relay.

 

Next weekend, those who qualified for Division III New England's will travel to MIT for those respective championships.
