Lancers Compete at Coast Guard Invitational

Worcester, MA- The Men's Indoor Track team traveled to New London, CT today to compete in the Coast Guard Winter Invite. First Year Seth Boudreau (Douglas, MA) and the Men's 4x200m relay team made up of first year Taylor Gavaletz (Dudley, MA), junior Anthony Paolucci (Billerica, MA), first year Elvis Velez (Clinton, MA) and sophomore Giovanni Casiano (Oxford, MA), led the action for the Lancers in their first meet of 2023.

The Men's 4x200m relay team finished in fifth place with a time of 1:45.88 while Boudreau was the star of the night with his third place finish in the Men's 600m in an impressive time of 1:34.52. The squad had a number of other top 10 finishers on the day. First year James Riley (Shrewsbury, MA) kept his speed in form from his cross country season, finishing in a time of 10:01.6 in the Men's 3000m race. While fellow teammates first years Alexander Lucier (Gardner, MA) and Alexander Matsuyasu (Newton, MA) competed in the Men's Mile. Lucier finished in 9th with a time of 5:03.56, with Matsuyasu crossing the line in 19th at 5:27.96. Senior Brendan Sharkey (Fort Wayne, IN) also recorded an impressive finish on the day, crossing in 6th in Men 400m at a time of 55 seconds flat, while junior Matthew Talbot (Belchertown, MA) doubled the distance, competing in the 800m with a time of 2:19.94 which was fast enough for an 8th place finish.

The Lancers did not just find success on the track, junior Jack Houlihan (Rutland, MA) finished 6th in the Men's Weight Throw with a throw of 11.67m, while also grabbing 8th in the Shot Put with a distance of 11.73m. Competing alongside Houlihan in the Weight Throw was sophmore Max' O'Connor (Dedham, MA) who reached 11.5m and an 8th place finish. Soccer standout Gavaletz used his jumping legs today, as he recorded a measurement of 11.76m in the triple jump that saw him place 6th, while fellow jumper first year Eliezer Gonzalez (Worcester, MA) jumped for a distance of 10.46m and a seventh place finish.

The Lancers Track team is back in action next Saturday when they head to Wheaton College for the Lyons Invitational.
